POSITION SUMMARY

Under the guidance of the Program Manager, the Family Support Specialist is primarily responsible for delivering services that leverage the home as the child's main learning environment. The Specialist also provides comprehensive services to children and families that encompass all aspects of the Early Head Start program.

EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education from an accredited institution, along with six months of experience in an Early Childhood program; or a Credential in Child Development Associate program or a structured two-year college program (60 credits) with a Certificate in Early Childhood Education, plus one year of supervised teaching experience in an Early Childhood program; or a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from an accredited institution with six months of experience in an Early Childhood program, plus six credits or equivalent approved Child Development or Early Childhood training courses (included as part of the degree); or a Bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited institution with twelve credits or equivalent approved Child Development or Early Childhood training courses (included as part of the degree).

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of six months of experience. Ongoing monthly in-service training covering topics such as Child Development, Health & Safety, managing challenging behaviors, curriculum development, and parental engagement. Must possess excellent communication, organizational, supervisory, and problem-solving skills, along with flexibility and a willingness to collaborate as a team member. Experience working with children aged 3-5 and their families is essential. Familiarity with community resources and the ability to connect families with appropriate agencies and services is required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • Exceptional communication, organizational, supervisory, and problem-solving skills, along with flexibility and a collaborative spirit.
  • Experience with children aged 3-5 and their families.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required upon hire.
  • Knowledge of community resources and the ability to link families with relevant agencies and services.

ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires a valid driver's license, a clear driving record, and the willingness to travel as needed.
  • Employment may be contingent upon maintaining a clear driving record.
  • This role is subject to a criminal background check, and continued employment is contingent on a record free of convictions.
