ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
Established in 1988, the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library Foundation was created to enhance the programming and resources available to the Fulton County Library System beyond the constraints of public funding.
The Library System, recognized as the largest public library system in Georgia, operates through 34 branches across Fulton County, serving a diverse population of over 1 million residents in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
The Foundation plays a pivotal role in supporting the Library System by fostering philanthropic partnerships and advocating for public backing. Together, the Foundation and the Library System identify areas where private funding can make the most significant impact.
This year, 44,000 children participated in Summer Reading programs, collectively reading over 130,000 books, thanks to the generosity of the Foundation's donors.
Private contributions to the Foundation serve as a testament to the vital role libraries play in our communities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will report directly to the Board of Directors and will be responsible for:
Providing strategic direction and daily management of the Foundation, steering the organization’s efforts within both public and private sectors to fulfill its mission and objectives.
The CEO will enhance the Foundation's capacity to secure substantial funding to support the Library System, which will include both private donations and public funding through a sustained advocacy initiative in collaboration with the Library Board of Trustees.
Fostering strong relationships with the Library System, the Fulton County Commission, and the Fulton County Manager through consistent communication and oversight.
Driving the Foundation's growth by identifying and nurturing partnerships for programming and resource development while effectively communicating the importance of public libraries in various forums.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESFundraising & Donor Relations (55%)
- Collaborate with the Library System to secure funding that supports library services for the Fulton County community.
- Oversee and implement the Foundation's development strategy, including annual fundraising efforts, increasing major gifts, and executing key development campaigns.
- Maintain existing donor relationships while identifying and cultivating new donors through networks of key stakeholders and Board members.
Project Management & Oversight (25%)
- Lead and execute the Foundation's strategy in conjunction with the Board of Directors, overseeing all operational aspects of the Foundation.
- Collaborate with the Library System on strategies to align fundraising activities with identified needs.
- Develop and manage internal staff to effectively carry out the Foundation's initiatives and participate in regular staff meetings.
- Oversee internal and external communications, including newsletters and marketing efforts, to keep the public informed about key initiatives.
- Organize and facilitate all Board and committee meetings.
Relationship Building with Key Stakeholders (20%)
- Advocate for and enhance the Foundation's standing within the Atlanta Fulton community.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with various stakeholders, including business, philanthropic, nonprofit, and governmental entities.
- Support current Foundation Board meetings and oversee four standing Board committees.
- Collaborate with the Board to implement effective procedures and strategies.
- Assist in identifying and recruiting additional Board members.
WHO YOU ARE
The ideal candidate for the CEO position will possess:
- A minimum of 5 years of management-level experience in fundraising, with a preference for experience in public/private partnerships.
- A proven track record in major donor cultivation, solicitation of significant gifts, and successful annual fundraising campaigns.
- Experience in developing corporate sponsorships and a background in marketing and communications.
- A visionary and inspiring servant leader, committed to education, equity, and the mission of the Foundation.
- Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to shift perceptions of the Library System and Foundation as critical community leaders.
- Experience in driving growth in private support, enhancing the Foundation's fundraising capabilities, and engaging a broad base of philanthropic and private sector partners.
- A compelling presence and advocate, capable of representing the Foundation and Library System credibly.
- The capacity to lead and elevate the Foundation with limited resources, working towards ambitious goals for its role in the community.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
SALARY: This position offers a competitive salary range of $110,000 to $125,000, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package.
