Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Librarian II to join our team. As a key member of our library staff, you will be responsible for providing advanced professional library services to patrons, managing a collection or specialized library function, and leading, coordinating, and/or providing daily work assistance to employees, volunteers, or community service workers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides customer service to Library patrons and the public, responding to questions and complaints related to library operations, researching problems, and initiating problem resolution.
  • Exercises discretion and limited authority regarding library programs, collections, and general operations, designing and delivering programming to targeted readership, serving on committees and task forces, and maintaining records of program participation.
  • Manages the selection, retention, and general development of assigned library collections, evaluating publications for inclusion in collection, selecting books for purchase, and preparing order lists for purchase of library materials.
  • Leads, coordinates, and/or provides daily work assistance to employees, volunteers, or community service workers, coordinating Library programs and daily work activities, and consulting with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise.
  • Assists in developing and monitoring assigned library program budget, prepares or completes various forms, reports, and correspondence, and monitors inventory levels of equipment and supplies.
  • Operates various equipment associated with library operations, including online card catalog, self-check machine, computer, printer, microfilm reader, overhead projector, microphone, television, alarm system, security monitor, copy machine, facsimile machine, postage meter, bar code scanner, book cart, calculator, and telephone.
  • Communicates with supervisor, employees, volunteers, community service workers, library patrons, other libraries, community organizations, government agencies, school/educational officials, school groups, the public, the media, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction.
Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited college or university.
  • Three years of professional librarian experience, including one year of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Certification as a Professional Librarian issued by the State of Georgia within six months of employment.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with collection management and working with budgets, including making selection decisions.
  • Knowledge and instructional experience in operating systems, office suites, presentation software, communication tools, and assistive technology.
  • Experience with providing basic computer maintenance, including file management, troubleshooting, and technical support.
  • Experience with training or helping people with Electronic Resources.
