Youth Sports Coordinator

This role is a seasonal opportunity designed to enhance the recreational experiences of students within the Newhall School District.
Program Schedule: The hours of operation are set between 9 AM and 2 PM, Monday through Thursday, with occasional Fridays. The assignment will commence at the start of the school year.
Role Responsibilities:
The Recess Sports Leaders will significantly enrich the recess and lunch periods for students by facilitating engaging games and sports activities. These activities will include popular sports such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, and handball, tailored to meet the varied interests of the students. The leaders will organize mini-tournaments and standalone games, providing instruction, clarifying rules, and serving as referees to ensure a fun and inclusive environment for all participants.
Key Duties:
- Develop positive relationships with teachers, staff, and students, understanding their strengths and areas for improvement to tailor activities accordingly.
- Ensure adherence to program standards, including safety and cleanliness, while maintaining necessary records as per YMCA guidelines.
- Report any issues regarding equipment, policy violations, or unusual circumstances to the appropriate supervisor.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures, particularly those concerning restroom usage, disciplinary matters, child protection, and emergency protocols.
- Comply with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as YMCA policies at all times.
Qualifications:
- AGE: Must be 18 years or older.
- EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- EXPERIENCE: Background in Kinesiology or Education preferred. Experience working with elementary school-aged children is essential. Ability to effectively communicate and engage with youth from diverse backgrounds is crucial.
- SKILLS: Strong character values including respect, responsibility, honesty, and caring; excellent communication skills; emotional maturity is required.
- Successful completion of an E-Verify check is mandatory for the final candidate.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
The candidate must possess the physical, visual, and auditory capabilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Program Objectives:
- Promote increased physical activity during recess and lunch, contributing to the overall health and well-being of students.
- Create an inclusive atmosphere where all students feel welcome and encouraged to participate, regardless of their skill level.
- Instill the principles of fair play and sportsmanship, fostering a positive and respectful environment during recreational activities.
- Highlight the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and cooperation through organized sports-based games.
- Implement the program gradually, starting with select schools as determined by the district, with plans for future expansion.
- Facilitate the development of essential social skills among students through organized activities and play.
