Early Childhood Educator for Preschool Programs

Reporting To: Recreation Superintendent
Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Recreation Superintendent and Preschool Supervisor, the Preschool Educator is tasked with the comprehensive planning, execution, and oversight of daily activities for preschool-aged children. This role is crucial in ensuring a safe, engaging, and educational atmosphere for young learners. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong classroom management skills, leadership qualities, and the initiative to foster a holistic learning environment.

- Design and oversee educational programs and activities.
- Engage with children to promote their participation in diverse, age-appropriate activities.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organized space conducive to learning and development.
- Create lesson plans aligned with the established curriculum.
- Prepare classroom materials and set up for daily activities.
- Provide a range of activities and resources that are suitable for young children.
- Maintain accurate attendance records for all enrolled children.
- Evaluate children's developmental progress and provide feedback to parents regarding any observed challenges.
- Conduct Parent/Teacher Conferences.
- Monitor and document significant behavioral issues among individuals and groups.
- Implement positive discipline strategies as needed.
- Manage classroom supplies and educational materials.
- Participate in regular staff meetings.
- Engage in professional development through workshops and training sessions.
- Design and decorate bulletin boards and classroom displays.
- Adhere to scheduled work hours.
- Collaborate with colleagues on lesson planning and event execution.
- Organize and facilitate special events.
- Maintain positive relations with parents and the community as a representative of the Joliet Park District.
- Assist with the safe drop-off and pick-up of preschool students.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Recreation Superintendent or Preschool Supervisor.
Work Schedule
Work hours will vary depending on class schedules and enrollment. Evening or weekend shifts may be required for special events. This position typically operates from August through May.
Supervisory Role
Supervision of preschool children.
Work Environment
This role primarily takes place in an indoor, climate-controlled environment, with occasional outdoor activities in varying weather conditions. The work setting can be busy and noisy, with frequent interruptions.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands outlined here represent what must be met by an employee to successfully fulfill the essential functions of this position. While performing job duties, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, bend, kneel, use hands and fingers for handling objects, reach with arms, climb stairs, and communicate effectively. The employee may occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Previous experience in a preschool or educational setting is preferred.
Additional Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
- Completion of First Aid Training.
- Successful completion of DCFS Mandated Reporter Training.
- Completion of Gateways' Early Childhood Education Credential Level 1.
