Position Overview

Role Summary:

The Youth Support Specialist (YSS) is responsible for ensuring the well-being of clients within the facility, providing daily oversight and addressing their basic needs, medical care, emotional support, and overall safety. The YSS fosters a nurturing environment, offering empathetic guidance to help clients navigate their challenges. Operating within a Trauma-Informed Care framework, the YSS aids clients in reaching their personal goals and facilitates family reunification when appropriate. This role may require flexibility to work in various units as directed by supervisory staff.

Qualifications:

Education: A high school diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's degree in a relevant human services field from an accredited institution is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of six months of direct care experience with youth, young adults, or families in a residential or professional context is preferred. Strong listening and communication skills are essential, along with an understanding of the dynamics faced by children, youth, and families in crisis.

Other Requirements: A valid driver's license in Texas must be obtained within 90 days of residency. A satisfactory driving record is necessary, and successful completion of a behavioral management de-escalation course is required.

Work Environment:

This position involves exposure to children with behavioral challenges, including potential physical aggression, as well as exposure to illness and blood. The residential program operates continuously, requiring staff to be available during holidays and inclement weather. Daily responsibilities include extended periods of walking and standing, necessitating physical capability to implement authorized crisis intervention techniques.

Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to policies regarding personnel and client records is crucial.

Key Responsibilities:
