About the Role:
SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding its team and is in search of a Senior Environmental Biologist to enhance our natural resources division. This role provides a balanced combination of fieldwork and office responsibilities, tailored to the specific projects and seasonal demands. Field responsibilities may encompass wetland assessments, investigations of threatened species, site evaluations, oversight during construction, and compliance checks. Office tasks may involve data analysis, scientific report composition, and preparation of necessary permits.


Our team fosters a collaborative atmosphere with a diverse group of scientists engaged in various projects across multiple disciplines, including wetlands, rare species, natural resource evaluations, environmental permitting and compliance, habitat restoration, biodiversity initiatives, and stormwater management.

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive skill set that includes the identification of flora and fauna native to the northeastern United States, meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational capabilities, eagerness to learn, effective communication, and proficient time management.

This is a full-time, hourly position with the possibility of hybrid work arrangements.

This position can be filled at various levels:

Assistant Environmental Biologist – Generally requires a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

Senior Environmental Biologist – Generally requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience and expertise.

Key Responsibilities:


Conduct a range of field studies related to natural resources, including wetland delineations, habitat and vegetation surveys, assessments of threatened and endangered species, and wildlife surveys.


Perform detailed fieldwork, organize and digitize field data, and draft technical reports and permit applications for compliance with relevant environmental regulations.


Supervise a small team during environmental fieldwork, which includes:

- Assigning and directing tasks to ensure quality and timely delivery of work;
- Ensuring team members understand their roles and responsibilities;
- Acting as a communication link between team members and senior management;
- Addressing any issues or complaints from team members in the field;
- Monitoring team performance and providing constructive feedback.



Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in Wetland Science, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.

A minimum of one (1) year of experience in natural resources.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficiency in MS Office and technical writing.

A valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Willingness to travel and work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading wetland delineations, rare species investigations, and construction monitoring.

Professional certifications such as WPIT, AWB, CERPIT, CESSWI, APSS, EIT, or similar, or the ability to obtain certification.

Experience in leading fieldwork focused on threatened and endangered species, wetland delineations, aquatic resource assessments, and compliance monitoring.

Extensive knowledge of plant species taxonomy and field identification skills.

Additional Information:
Valid driver’s license required.

Ability and willingness to travel for extended periods, including nights and weekends.

Must pass a Motor Vehicle background screening.

Must be able to access project sites within the designated area.

Ability to work long hours in challenging conditions.
