Key Responsibilities
  1. Administer physician-prescribed therapies, including oxygen, humidification, nebulizers, and aerosols, with a strong understanding of indications, contraindications, and complications.
  2. Maintain accurate records and charges for all therapies administered.
  3. Communicate effectively with physicians and nurses to ensure seamless patient care.
  4. Enforce safety protocols and precautions in all departments, staying up-to-date on hospital fire and disaster plans.
  5. Set up and regulate mechanical ventilators for patients requiring respiratory support.
  6. Perform testing techniques in the pulmonary function laboratory, including flow volume loops, DLCOs, and nitrogen washouts.
  7. Participate in the CPR team and assist with airway management and intubations.
  8. Conduct stress testing, EKGs, EEGs, Holter monitoring, and draw blood gases as needed.
  9. Provide patient and caregiver education, as well as continuing education for staff.
  10. Collaborate with physicians to discuss therapy options for individual patients.
  11. Monitor and evaluate patient progress, adjusting therapies as needed.
  12. Maintain respiratory care equipment to the highest standard of function and cleanliness.
  13. Contribute to the development of departmental policies and procedures.
  14. Assist with research projects and assess new respiratory care equipment and technology.
  15. Participate in teaching and in-service education.
  16. Demonstrate expertise in caring for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  17. Adhere to Cibola General Hospital's Compliance Policy/Code of Conduct, reporting any questionable or unethical behavior to the Compliance Coordinator.
Requirements
  1. Associate's Science Degree or 2-year AMA-approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
  2. Pass a national/international administered Respiratory Therapy exam.
  3. Hold a Registered or Certified Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT, CRT) credential.
  4. High school graduate or equivalent.
  5. Licensed by the New Mexico Occupational Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  6. Current CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) years of post-graduate experience, with a preference for critical care, pediatrics, and emergency room experience. ACLS certification is also desirable.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to perform simple manipulative skills frequently, with hand-eye coordination skills, and the ability to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods. During some treatments, you may be required to assume uncomfortable positions. Stoops and bends frequently when administering treatments or assisting patients. Must be able to see objects clearly and hear normal sounds with some background noises. Handles and lifts supplies and equipment, moving it throughout the hospital. Works in a well-lighted and ventilated hospital and patient's rooms. Must take precautions when using gases and oxygen.

Work Environment

Employee may be required to work days, evenings, or nights and may be required to work overtime to provide patient coverage in emergencies.
