Overview
The Field Survey Assistant will be responsible for transporting and setting up the necessary instruments and equipment for land surveying, ensuring the job site is adequately prepared for surveying activities. It is essential to understand all safety risks associated with the tasks and to learn the safe and effective operation of relevant tools and equipment. This role may involve working in various settings, including plant operations or construction sites.
Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the work expected in this position and are not exhaustive:
- Remove any vegetation, including trees and brush, from the survey line.
- Set up stakes to facilitate elevation measurements.
- Support the surveyor in assessing elevations.
- Collaborate with other craft personnel as required.
Qualifications
Physical Requirements
- Ability to push, pull, lift, or carry items weighing up to 50 lbs, with occasional requirements of up to 100 lbs.
- Capable of repetitive use of hands, arms, and legs.
- Strong hand-eye coordination.
- Effective communication skills (hearing, comprehension, and speaking) are necessary for safe work performance.
- Ability to perform tasks ranging from sedentary to heavy work.
- Experience operating various hand and power tools (electric, gas, and pneumatic).
- Ability to climb and maintain balance on various structures, including steel/wood frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Frequent use of hands for grasping, lifting, handling, carrying, or feeling objects.
- Position may involve prolonged bending, twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing/pulling, or standing and lifting.
- Must be able to navigate uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, and soft sand.
- May need to work in confined spaces.
- Exposure to various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
Mental Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively with management and supervision.
- Proficient reading and writing skills for understanding and conveying directions and safety policies.
- Basic math skills for performing calculations.
- Capability to work at varying tempos and maintain focus amid distractions.
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to remember, examine, and observe critical details.
