Job Summary

The YMCA of the North is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Outdoor Education/Team Building Instructor to join our team. As a key member of our Outdoor Education & Adventure Program, you will be responsible for facilitating environmental and outdoor recreation activities and teambuilding programs for participants of all ages.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare for programs, ensuring a high-quality experience for participants that aligns with the YMCA's core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Facilitate environmental and outdoor recreation programs, including teambuilding initiatives, nature activities, and outdoor education.
  • Serve as a host and liaison to program participant groups, ensuring a positive and inclusive experience for all.
  • Maintain and inventory class materials and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Identify and respond to participant behavioral issues in an appropriate manner, as needed.
  • Assist in revising curriculum by actively pursuing new teaching techniques and activities to incorporate.
  • Participate in staff training and meetings, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
Requirements
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Minimum of one year of experience in camp, youth, or recreation programs working with children and adults or in a related area
  • Experience facilitating programs engendering group participation, preferably in an outdoor setting
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain within the first 30 days of hire
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
  • Ability to accomplish duties/tasks with little direct supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups
Preferred Qualifications
  • Related educational background
  • Knowledge of environmental and natural history concepts
  • Experience facilitating high ropes and low ropes courses
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to pass a driver's road test for YMCA vehicles and trailers
Work Conditions
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp programs and activities, including hiking, climbing, belaying, team building initiatives, building campfires, physical games, and activities.
  • Must have the ability to be outside in all weather conditions and on your feet for prolonged periods of time (up to 10 hours in a day).
