We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Middle School Special Education Instructor and Student Mentor to play a pivotal role in shaping an impactful educational experience. This position is set to commence in the upcoming summer.

Position Summary

The following outlines the key responsibilities and expectations for this role, which is designed to be flexible and adaptive to the needs of our school community.

As a Special Education Instructor and Student Mentor at TalentED Advisors, you will embrace various responsibilities. We believe in the power of teamwork in education, recognizing that collaboration leads to greater outcomes.

  • Special Education Instruction: Collaborate with subject area teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional methods in a workshop-style classroom setting, where students can explore diverse learning pathways through hands-on, project-based activities. You will also work alongside tutors to provide in-class academic and behavioral support, and deliver tailored instruction as outlined in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). You will be a vital part of the team supporting students with special needs, engaging closely with their families and the Child Study Team while participating in IEP meetings.
  • Student Mentorship: Lead a daily advisory class, partnering with families to guide a small group of students in discovering their passions, enhancing social-emotional and metacognitive skills, setting personal and academic goals, and fostering a sense of purpose. Through advisory sessions, individual coaching, family engagement, and progress tracking, you will ensure that students receive the necessary support for consistent growth.
  • Professional Development: As a learner and team contributor, you will establish personalized goals with the guidance of a coach and peers, modeling the self-directed growth we encourage in our students. By proactively supporting colleagues and contributing where needed, you will help cultivate an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

  • Preferred qualifications include a valid NJ Instructional Certificate or eligibility as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities and Middle School Subject Matter Specialization in Grades 5-8 (Language Arts/Literacy, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies), or an equivalent certification from another state.
