General Purpose:

The Culinary Operations Assistant will support the kitchen manager in overseeing daily kitchen functions, food preparation, and related tasks to ensure the timely service of safe and delicious meals. This role involves a variety of essential responsibilities, including food preparation, menu design assistance, inventory management, staff training, and ensuring compliance with food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in supervising food preparation, portion control, and overall food presentation.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen manager to determine weekly supply needs and maintain inventory.
  • Act as the kitchen manager during their absence.
  • Ensure meal quality by checking the freshness of ingredients.
  • Inspect kitchen supplies and equipment for cleanliness and functionality, arranging for necessary cleaning and maintenance.
  • Monitor sanitation practices and ensure staff adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Encourage and motivate staff during peak service times.
  • Address any customer complaints regarding food quality or service.
  • Maintain accurate business records.

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a vocational or trade school program related to the culinary field, or 1 to 3 years of culinary experience.
  • Preferred certifications in culinary arts and food safety.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong passion for culinary arts and food preparation.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to handle challenging situations professionally.
  • Proficient in computer applications.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Solid business judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Effective organizational skills to manage time and resources.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
