Position Overview: Project Accountant

The Project Accountant role at Shiel Sexton is a mid-level accounting position requiring expertise in project and cost accounting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, accuracy, and timely execution of tasks, along with strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare project billings in accordance with contract stipulations utilizing an ERP accounting system and AIA G702/G703 format.
  • Develop supplemental schedules for project billings, including Sworn Statements, Schedule of Values, and Lien Waivers.
  • Process and review project payables, ensuring subcontractor billing documents are complete.
  • Conduct job cost reviews and make necessary adjustments.
  • Facilitate project closeout procedures.
  • Provide comprehensive project support in collaboration with the Project Operations Team.
  • Mentor and train fellow team members within the accounting department.
  • Utilize independent judgment to identify issues and propose solutions.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in Project/Cost Accounting with a solid understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Proficient in ERP Accounting Systems, preferably Vista Viewpoint.
  • Familiarity with various contract types for project billings, including Lump Sum, T&M, and GMP.
  • Knowledge of subcontract commitments and purchase orders.
  • Understanding of retainage principles.
  • Ability to interpret and comprehend billing requirements.
  • Awareness of the lifecycle of stored materials in project billings.
