Project Accountant Role

The Project Accountant role at Shiel Sexton is a mid-level position that necessitates expertise in project and cost accounting, along with a keen attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills, with experience in managing monthly project billings and accounts payable.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of project billings in alignment with contract stipulations utilizing an ERP accounting system and formatted in AIA G702/G703
  • Creation of supplementary schedules for project billings (including Sworn Statements, Schedule of Values, and Lien Waivers)
  • Processing and reviewing project payables while ensuring subcontractor billing documents are complete
  • Conducting job cost reviews and adjustments
  • Managing project closeout procedures
  • Providing comprehensive project support in collaboration with the Project Operations Team
  • Mentoring and training fellow team members within the accounting department
  • Employing independent judgment to identify issues and propose solutions
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in Project/Cost Accounting with a solid grasp of relevant principles and practices
  • Proficient in ERP Accounting Systems (Vista Viewpoint preferred)
  • Familiarity with various contract types for project billings (Lump Sum, T&M, GMP)
  • Understanding of subcontract commitments and purchase orders
  • Knowledge of retainage principles
  • Ability to interpret and comprehend billing requirements
  • Awareness of the lifecycle of stored materials in project billings
