The Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners is in search of a qualified, committed, and innovative professional to fill the role of County Administrator. This position requires a candidate with a solid background in county governance who demonstrates strong leadership and management capabilities. The ideal applicant should hold a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in Public/Business Administration, Management, Finance, Government, Political Science, or a related discipline. Consideration may be given to extensive experience in Government Major Management in lieu of a degree.

Applicants should have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in management, particularly within public administration, or possess a combination of education, training, and experience that meets the stated qualifications.

The County Administrator will provide executive leadership and strategic direction to County Department heads, offer guidance to the Board of County Commissioners on policies and procedures, manage the annual budget, engage with community groups, and oversee the daily operations of the County in accordance with applicable statutes.

  1. Educational Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, or extensive experience in Government Major Management in County or Municipal Government may be considered in lieu of a degree.
    • Five years of experience in management or public administration, or related fields.
  2. Professional Experience:
    • At least five years of progressively responsible management experience, preferably in public administration or related sectors.
    • A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the minimum qualifications.
    • Experience in budget management and financial principles.
    • Ability to monitor and evaluate staff performance.
    • Competence in report preparation.
    • Skill in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
    • Maintaining current county policies and procedures for the Board of County Commissioners.

  5. General Expectations:
    • The candidate must be a strong leader capable of effectively managing county operations.
    • Ability to collaborate with elected officials, staff, and the community.
    • Preference will be given to current residents of Gilchrist County who possess equal qualifications with other applicants.
  6. Salary Range: $75,000 to $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience. This is a Senior Management Position within the Florida Retirement System. The successful candidate will serve at the discretion of the Board of County Commissioners as an at-will employee.
