The successful candidate will be an accomplished scholar, clinician, and administrator with a proven track record of leading academic research departments and fostering excellence in research, education, and clinical care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for the Department of Pediatrics, aligning with the University's mission and goals.
  • Develop and implement academic, research, and clinical programs that advance the Department's reputation and impact.
  • Lead a team of faculty, staff, and students in achieving departmental objectives and promoting a culture of excellence.
  • Collaborate with external partners and stakeholders to advance the Department's research and clinical initiatives.
  • Manage departmental resources, including budget, personnel, and space, to optimize operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Requirements
  • Doctoral or advanced degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in Pediatrics and eligibility for a California medical license.
  • 10+ years of professional, scholarly, and educational accomplishments as a faculty member.
  • 5+ years of experience in academic healthcare environments, including integration of education and research initiatives.
  • 5+ years of analyzing, planning, and implementing strategic initiatives and experiences for an academic unit.
  • 3+ years of experience aligning financial, personnel, and space resources to meet operational needs and strategic plans.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading a large academic research department with multiple subspecialty divisions.
  • Outstanding record with experience as a senior administrator in an academic environment.
  • Organizational management experience leading financial, human resources, and space discussions, strategy, and plans.
  • Demonstrated leadership in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful philanthropic and/or grant generation.
  • Proven ability to define areas of concern, strategically identify solutions, and implement updates within targeted timeframes.
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to create a compelling narrative to advance the department.
  • Experience working with and supporting a diverse group of faculty, trainees, staff, students, trainees, and stakeholders.
  • Experience engaging with external stakeholders and partners to establish and meet strategic goals.
