Job Title: Chair of Radiology Department

UC San Diego is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Radiology. As a key member of the Health Sciences faculty, the Chair will be responsible for advancing the department's academic, clinical, and research missions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership and vision for the department's academic, clinical, and research programs.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals and objectives that align with the university's strategic plan.
  • Lead the department's faculty and staff in achieving excellence in education, research, and clinical care.
  • Collaborate with other departments and units to advance the university's mission and goals.
  • Manage the department's budget and resources to ensure effective use and allocation.
Requirements:
  • Earned doctoral or advanced degree (e.g. PhD, MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in Radiology and must have or be eligible for a California medical license as determined by the Medical Board of California.
  • 10+ year record of professional, scholarly, and educational accomplishments as a faculty member.
  • 5+ years of engagement and knowledge of an academic healthcare environment, including the integration of education and research initiatives.
  • 5+ years of analyzing, planning, and implementing strategic initiatives and experiences for an academic unit.
  • 3+ years of experience aligning financial, personnel, and space resources to meet operational needs and strategic plans.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading a large academic research department with multiple subspecialty divisions.
  • Outstanding record with experience as a senior administrator in an academic environment.
  • Organizational management experience leading financial, human resources, and space discussions, strategy, and plans.
  • Demonstrated leadership in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Successful philanthropic and/or grant generation.
  • Proven ability to define areas of concern, strategically identify solutions, and implement updates within targeted timeframes.
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to create a compelling narrative to advance the department.
  • Experience working with and supporting a diverse group of faculty, trainees, staff, students, trainees, and stakeholders.
  • Experience engaging with external stakeholders and partners to establish and meet strategic goals.
