The University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) School of Medicine is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Chair of the Department of Radiology. This is a key leadership role that requires a strong academic background, administrative experience, and a proven track record of success in managing complex healthcare environments.
The Chair will be responsible for leading the Department of Radiology in achieving its strategic goals, including advancing research, education, and clinical care. The successful candidate will have a strong vision for the department and will be able to inspire and motivate faculty, staff, and students to work towards a common goal.
The Chair will also be responsible for managing the department's budget, personnel, and resources, as well as developing and implementing strategic plans to achieve the department's objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the academic healthcare environment and will be able to navigate the complexities of university administration.
The Chair will be a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan and will be expected to abide by the plan's guidelines and regulations. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a background check and will be subject to the University of California's policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Department of Radiology in achieving its strategic goals
- Manage the department's budget, personnel, and resources
- Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the department's objectives
- Recruit and retain outstanding faculty and staff
- Advocate for the department's interests with university administrators
Requirements:
- Earned doctoral or advanced degree (e.g. PhD, MD or DO) from an accredited institution
- Board certification in Radiology and a California medical license
- 10+ year record of professional, scholarly, and educational accomplishments as a faculty member
- 5+ years of engagement and knowledge of an academic healthcare environment
- 5+ years of analyzing, planning, and implementing strategic initiatives and experiences for an academic unit
- 3+ years of experience aligning financial, personnel, and space resources to meet operational needs and strategic plans
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading a large academic research department with multiple subspecialty divisions
- Outstanding record with experience as a senior administrator in an academic environment
- Organizational management experience leading financial, human resources, and space discussions, strategy, and plans
- Demonstrated leadership in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Successful philanthropic and/or grant generation
