Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Unit Manager to join our team at Tenet Healthcare Corporation. As a Clinical Unit Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Department, including managing human resources, investigating and resolving complaints, and providing leadership to the telemetry staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the telemetry staff, ensuring that they are equipped to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Investigate and resolve complaints from patients, visitors, staff, and physicians in a timely and effective manner.
  • Manage human resources, including hiring, evaluating, and counseling staff members.
  • Ensure that performance evaluations are completed in a timely fashion and that staff members are held accountable for their performance.
  • Facilitate the completion and submission of human resource documentation, including employee records and performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate attendance at hospital orientation and mandatory continuing education programs for employees.
  • Maintain current records on all employees, including yearly certification, current licensure, and evidence of continuing education.
  • Promote sound staffing practices by optimizing the utilization of human resources and maintaining accurate records.
  • Utilize individual patient classification systems to predict nursing care requirements and maintain documentation to discern trends and patterns of nursing care delivery.
  • Assess and assist in the implementation of staff development and cross-training as needed.
  • Support all hospital programs, including risk management, safety, and infection control.
  • Perform the scheduling function and facilitate unit workflow and teamwork.
  • Assist in the completion of standards of care, policies, and procedures, and review and revise them as necessary.
  • Assist the Director in the development and accomplishment of departmental goals and objectives.
  • Identify areas of cost savings through labor and supply utilization efficiencies and communicate suggestions to the Director.
  • Assist and edit payroll reports and maintain personal current knowledge and expertise in the specialty field of the department.
  • Assist in the development of a departmental strategic plan and facilitate and support the clinical and organizational strategic plans.
  • Integrate quality improvement into daily operations and utilize quality improvement philosophy in developing strategic directions.
  • Obtain feedback on a regular basis from others within the department and collaborate with the Director on mechanisms for improvement.
  • Communicate self and staff concerns through proper written and verbal channels and utilize problem-solving skills to suggest mechanisms for correction.
  • Act as a team member within the department and within the organization, demonstrating effective, positive, and responsible relationships with patients, families, medical directors, key physicians, employees, management, and administration.
Requirements
  • California RN License (maintain current at all times)
  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS Certification (maintain current at all times)
  • Must successfully complete EKG test within the first 30 days of hire
  • Must successfully complete NIHSS within the first 30 days of hire
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical experience
  • Demonstrated clinical competence and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to present self in a positive and professional manner
  • Preferred: Previous management experience
