POSITION SUMMARY

The Institutional Development Specialist - Alumni Relations is essential in fostering strategic growth and development. This role is accountable for designing, executing, and assessing comprehensive alumni engagement and fundraising initiatives aimed at enhancing connections between LeMoyne-Owen College and its alumni. This position is pivotal in nurturing alumni support, boosting alumni contributions, and mobilizing the alumni network to further the university's mission and objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Formulate and implement strategic alumni engagement programs, encompassing events, communications, volunteer opportunities, and affinity group initiatives.
  • Oversee the alumni database and tracking systems to maintain accurate and current alumni information.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between the institution and alumni, cultivating meaningful relationships and a lifelong connection.
  • Collaborate with the Institutional Advancement team to identify, cultivate, and solicit alumni donors for annual contributions, major gifts, and planned giving.
  • Organize and manage alumni homecoming events, reunions, and other signature activities to enhance participation and engagement.
  • Supervise the creation of alumni communications, including newsletters, magazines, social media, and the alumni website.
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with alumni chapters, affinity groups, and volunteer networks to broaden the university's outreach and impact.
  • Evaluate data and metrics to measure the effectiveness of alumni programs and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Contribute to the formulation and execution of the division's overall strategic plan.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in alumni relations, advancement, or a related field, ideally within a higher education context.
  • Proven success in crafting and implementing innovative alumni engagement strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Expertise in database management, digital marketing, and data analysis.
  • Capability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.
  • Ability to manage details while juggling multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with fundraising databases and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of LeMoyne-Owen College.
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; strong negotiation and analytical problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and effectively convey complex technical information across all organizational levels.
  • Understanding of computer systems characteristics, features, and integration capabilities.
  • Demonstrated record of innovation and awareness of emerging trends in information technology within higher education.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to handle, or feel, and to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision.
