Job Summary:

The Safety Compliance Officer plays a crucial role as the primary safety professional, conducting safety inspections, observations, investigations, training, and ensuring adherence to regulatory standards including OSHA, DOT, and EPA. This role involves anticipating and identifying potential hazards based on experience and historical data, as well as evaluating the likelihood and severity of incidents that may arise from identified risks.

The Safety Compliance Officer will:

  • Provide expert advice on compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations, standards, and company policies.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of workplace facilities, tools, equipment, and machinery to identify and rectify deficiencies or potential hazards, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Assist management in investigating safety-related incidents, employee injuries, and accidents to determine root causes and contributing factors.
  • Facilitate safety training and educational programs for supervisory and field personnel through various training methods.
  • Recommend safe work practices and demonstrate the use of personal protective equipment to minimize exposure to workplace hazards.
  • Ensure that all tools, equipment, and materials are suitable for their intended use, functional, and equipped with the necessary safety measures to mitigate risks.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience of 4 years in a related field.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices in overhead and underground distribution in accordance with OSHA standards.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a supervisory role such as Lead Lineman or Foreman.
  • OSHA Outreach Training Instructor certification (Construction).
  • Current or pursuing certifications such as Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) or Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP).
  • Knowledge of accident investigation techniques following root cause analysis principles.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This position operates in a field environment, requiring physical activity including bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting. Employees may work in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and precipitation.

The physical demands outlined are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Candidates must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and possess clarity of vision for tasks requiring distance and close-up work.
