Position Overview: The Vice President of Technology and Product Management is responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of the engineering team, while also formulating and implementing organizational budgets and policies. This role is pivotal in establishing and executing the technology and product strategy for the business unit.

Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the Vice President, Business Unit Manager and requires on-site presence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve strategic objectives for both short-term and long-term growth, including new product development.
  • Drive technology integration and manage product lifecycle and profitability.
  • Oversee engineering sales and expense budgets, ensuring resources are effectively allocated to support various customer projects and cross-functional business goals.
  • Directly supervise engineering directors, managers, and team members, including international reports.
  • Engage in recruitment, training, and performance management of employees; plan, assign, and direct work.
  • Develop career advancement and leadership growth plans for employees, establishing succession planning for the engineering team.
  • Create and manage the company's strategic plan along with technology and product roadmaps.

Sales and Customer Engagement: Participate in the sales process to understand customer technical needs and the business's capability to meet those needs. Play an active role in creating and approving technical proposals, including customer visits as necessary. Participate in bid reviews and collaborate with the program management team to ensure designs align with customer requirements.

Quality Assurance: Ensure that adequate testing and test plans are developed, and that projects are completed on schedule. Own and enhance the design review and tollgate process, driving continuous improvement initiatives such as OPEX, VA/VE, and PPV.

Digital Strategy: Establish and implement a digital strategy for the department, including the selection and evaluation of new digital tools, workflows, and technologies.

Capital Planning: Support the development and execution of the capital plan for the business unit, particularly concerning critical engineering and product development needs.

Problem Solving: Analyze and resolve business-related challenges while assisting employees in problem-solving activities.

Meetings and Reviews: Regularly participate in corporate, division, business unit, and departmental reviews and meetings, including Strategic Planning, Budget, New Product Development, and Operating Reviews. Provide input and updates on engineering activities crucial to the business.

Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel for corporate engagements, design reviews, customer and supplier meetings, manufacturing and quality reviews, and sales-related activities, including industry trade shows.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Fifteen years or more of progressive engineering management experience in the industry, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Strong business and financial acumen to manage product line performance and oversee budgeting and financial reporting.
  • P&L and product line management experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both individual and group settings with executive leadership, colleagues, and team members.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Utilize Kaizen and other methodologies to facilitate and drive continuous improvement efforts.
