Position Overview: The Vice President of Technology and Product Management is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of the engineering team. This role involves formulating and implementing organizational budgets and policies while establishing and executing the technology and product strategy for the business unit.

Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the Vice President, Business Unit Manager and is based on-site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve strategic objectives for both short-term and long-term growth, including new product development.
  • Drive technology integration and manage product lifecycle and profitability.
  • Oversee engineering sales and expense budgets, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support various customer projects and cross-functional business goals.
  • Supervise engineering directors, managers, and team members, including international reports.
  • Conduct interviews, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work.
  • Develop career and leadership growth plans for team members and establish succession planning for the engineering team.
  • Create and manage the company’s strategic plan and technology/product roadmaps.

Sales and Customer Engagement: Participate in the sales process to understand customer technical needs and the business's capability to meet those needs. Actively engage in creating and approving technical proposals as a vital part of new business development, including customer visits as necessary.

Project Management: Collaborate with the program management team to ensure designs meet customer specifications. Ensure adequate testing and test plans are developed, and that projects are completed on schedule. Own and enhance the design review and tollgate process.

Continuous Improvement: Drive and support continuous improvement initiatives, including OPEX, VA/VE, and PPV.

Digital Strategy: Establish and execute the digital strategy for the department, including the selection and evaluation of new digital tools, workflows, and technologies.

Capital Planning: Support the development and execution of the capital plan for the business unit, particularly concerning critical engineering and product development needs.

Problem Solving: Analyze and resolve business-related challenges, assisting employees in problem-solving activities.

Meetings and Reviews: Regularly participate in corporate, division, business unit, and departmental reviews and meetings, including strategic planning, budgeting, new product development, and operational reviews. Provide input and updates on engineering activities crucial to the business.

Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel for corporate engagements, design reviews, customer and supplier meetings, manufacturing and quality reviews, and sales-related activities, including industry trade shows.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Fifteen years or more of progressive engineering management experience in the industry, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Strong business and financial acumen to manage product line performance and execute budgeting and financial reporting requirements.
  • P&L and product line management experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging with executive leadership, co-workers, and employees effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently, meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient in using Kaizen and other tools to facilitate and drive continuous improvement activities.
