Position Overview: The Vice President of Technology and Product Management is responsible for leading and coordinating the efforts of the Engineering team, developing and implementing organizational budgets and policies, and setting the technology and product vision for the business unit.

Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Vice President, Business Unit Manager and is based at the Wilmington MA location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the strategic goals of the organization for both immediate and future growth, focusing on new product initiatives.
  • Manage technology integration and oversee product lifecycle and profitability.
  • Supervise engineering sales and budget expenditures, ensuring resource allocation supports various customer projects and cross-functional objectives.
  • Directly oversee engineering directors, managers, and staff, including teams located internationally.
  • Engage in the recruitment, training, and development of employees; plan and assign tasks effectively.
  • Foster career development and leadership growth for team members, establishing succession plans for the engineering department.
  • Formulate and manage the company's strategic plan along with technology and product roadmaps.

Customer Engagement: Actively participate in the sales process to comprehend customer technical requirements and the organization’s capability to meet those needs. Engage in the creation and approval of technical proposals as a critical function in business development, including necessary customer interactions.

Project Management: Collaborate with the program management team to ensure that designs align with customer specifications. Ensure comprehensive testing and test plans are in place, and that projects are completed within deadlines. Own and enhance the design review and tollgate processes.

Continuous Improvement: Champion and support ongoing improvement initiatives, including but not limited to OPEX, VA/VE, and PPV methodologies.

Digital Strategy: Establish and implement a digital strategy for the department, including the selection and assessment of new digital tools, workflows, and technologies.

Capital Planning: Assist in the development and execution of the capital plan for the business unit, particularly concerning essential engineering and product development needs.

Problem Solving: Analyze and address business-related challenges while aiding employees in resolving issues.

Meetings and Reviews: Regularly participate in corporate, division, business unit, and departmental reviews and meetings, including Strategic Planning, Budget, New Product Development, and Operating Reviews. Provide updates and insights on engineering activities critical to the business.

Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel for corporate engagements, design reviews, customer and supplier meetings, manufacturing and quality assessments, and sales-related activities, including industry trade shows.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, with over fifteen years of progressive engineering management experience in the industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills: Strong business and financial acumen is essential for managing product line performance and executing budgeting and financial reporting in collaboration with finance. Experience in P&L and product line management is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with executive leadership, colleagues, and employees. Ability to prioritize and manage workload efficiently, meeting deadlines. Proficient in utilizing Kaizen and other methodologies to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
