About the Position

This is an exciting opportunity to join the US Government Other Agencies and Independent Organizations as a highly skilled professional in the field of environmental science and remediation.

We are seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Remedial Branch Specialist, responsible for determining appropriate cleanup actions, methods, and tools for toxic and hazardous waste sites.

As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on complex site situations that involve toxic and hazardous waste cleanup, participate in or monitor enforcement activities, and perform community relations activities within a public forum as a representative of the Agency.

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary range of $96,684 - $149,465 per year, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, life insurance, health benefits, and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine appropriate cleanup actions, methods, and tools for toxic and hazardous waste sites.
  • Direct contractual work efforts in cases where EPA must assume the cleanup duties to assure that federal funds are properly expended and that contractors are utilized effectively and efficiently.
  • Serve as a resource for complex site situations that involve toxic and hazardous waste cleanup.
  • Participate in or monitor enforcement activities.
  • Perform community relations activities within a public forum as a representative of the Agency.

Requirements:

  • 1 year of full-time specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level defined as Monitoring cleanup efforts for complex site situations that involve toxic and hazardous waste.
  • 1 year of full-time specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level defined as Directing and monitoring cleanup efforts for complex site situations that involve toxic and hazardous waste; and leading negotiation sessions with potentially responsible party (PRP) concerning all aspects of remedial cleanups.

Education:

  • Bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
  • Combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as listed.

Additional Information:

This position is in the bargaining unit and requires a background investigation. The selected candidate will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure form within 30 days of their first day of employment and annually thereafter. Participation in the medical monitoring program is required. This position requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). If you are selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period. This position is designated as Moderate Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation. All conditions of the pre-employment security process must be met before an official letter of employment can be issued with a report for duty date. You will be required to meet ongoing specialized safety training requirements in order to meet field safety standards.
