Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental Engineer/Scientist/Consultant to join our team at Barr Engineering Co. in the Midwest region. The successful candidate will assist with the management of state and federal environmental review and permitting opportunities across the United States, with a focus on mining services in the Midwest.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the management of environmental review and permitting projects, including identifying, scoping, and managing projects, as well as providing technical advice and support.
  • Work with clients to build and maintain relationships, and provide guidance on environmental review and permitting processes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to manage and support the development of state and federal-level environmental review documents and permit applications.
  • Manage environmental surveys/assessments, develop regulatory strategies with clients, and consult and negotiate with regulatory agencies.
  • Support public involvement and provide training and mentoring to staff as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, environmental policy, natural resources management, or related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience directly related to environmental review and permitting projects.
  • Proven ability to lead, organize, and direct multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of and experience with NEPA and state-equivalent regulations and processes.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with federal and state regulatory agency staff, resource managers, and other government officials.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate in a consultative manner with project team members and clients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Recent experience with environmental permitting/consulting for mine sites, with experience in the Midwest and/or with metallic mines preferred.
  • Experience managing environmental review and permitting projects at state (where applicable) and/or federal level.
  • Experience and/or familiarity with the following regulatory programs and permitting requirements: NPDES, water appropriations, wetland permitting (USACE 404), threatened and endangered species (Section 7 compliance), cultural resources (Section 106 compliance), state and federal mining.

Barr Engineering Co. offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $80,000-$110,000/year, as well as a discretionary cash bonus.
