Job Summary

Northwell Health is seeking a skilled Patient Liaison to serve as a liaison between care providers, patients, and families. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to respond in a caring, empathic, and calming way with people.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintaining Ongoing Communication
    • Make periodic rounds of the hospital to check in with patients and/or families and assess satisfaction and comfort level;
    • Assist patients and families by obtaining answers to questions, including non-clinical information on the status and causes of delays;
    • Provide directions to other areas of the hospital, such as the cafeteria, public restrooms, and chapel;
    • Provide general, public information regarding other hospital services and programs;
    • Interpret and communicate the Patient Bill of Rights and other policies and procedures to patients, families, staff, and volunteers.
  • Communicating Concerns
    • Communicate any concerns needing immediate attention to the appropriate staff person (e.g., Nursing, Security, Access Services, Maintenance, etc.).
  • Responding to Comfort Needs
    • Respond to some comfort needs for patients as approved by nursing.
  • Escorting Families
    • Escort families to the patient's exam room, when appropriate.
  • Performing Related Duties
    • Perform related duties, as required.
Requirements
  • Education
    • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Skills
    • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to respond in a caring, empathic, and calming way with people.
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced setting with seriously ill people.
    • Bi-lingual preferred and may be required at the discretion of the department.
