Job Summary

United Community Action Partnership, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Transportation Professional to join our team. As a Public Service Driver, you will be responsible for operating a bus in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring the well-being and safety of our passengers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate Bus Safely: Ensure the safe operation of the bus, adhering to all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Pick Up/Deliver Passengers: Safely transport passengers to their destinations, following the manifest and dispatched ride assignments.
  • Make Sound Decisions: Make timely and informed decisions regarding traffic and road conditions, as well as bus operations.
  • Efficient Route Planning: Select booked trips efficiently, taking into account times and locations.
  • Collaborate with Staff: Work with staff to set up routes and schedule special events.
  • Comply with Regulations: Understand and follow MnDOT, Agency, and Program guidelines.
  • Pre/Post Trip Inspections: Conduct thorough pre and post trip bus inspections.
  • Provide Excellent Customer Service: Treat and assist passengers in a positive, professional manner, and confront situations tactfully.
  • Support United's Behavioral Competencies: Demonstrate and support United's Behavioral Competencies.
Requirements
  • Commercial Driver's License: Possess a Class C or higher commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
  • Experience: One (1) year of previous related experience.
  • Training: Must attend 16 hours of state certified training within 6 months of being hired and every four years thereafter.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
  • Road Use, Laws, and Regulations: Knowledge of road use, laws, and regulations.
  • Courteous and Professional Communication: Ability to relate in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Effective Communication: Demonstrated effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Radio and Tablet Communication: Ability to use two-way radio and tablets to maintain communication.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Ability to safely operate and maintain passenger bus and wheelchair lift in all conditions.
  • Decision Making: Ability to make appropriate decisions regarding safety issues when supervision is not available.
  • Map Reading: Ability to read maps.
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills: Organizational and time management skills.
  • Teamwork and Guidance: Ability to accept guidance, training, and support from other transportation staff.
  • Independence and Teamwork: Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Reliability and Attendance: Reliable, regular attendance.
  • DOT Physical and Background Check: Must be able to pass DOT physical and alcohol/drug testing requirements, and have satisfactory completion of background check.
