Your Role:

The Nutrition Specialist collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver nutritional services and medical nutrition therapy that align with the patient's health objectives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and executing nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy in accordance with established care standards and protocols.
  • Managing resources efficiently and participating in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintaining professional skills and competencies necessary for effective practice.

· Patient Care:

  • Implements hospital protocols to identify patients at nutritional risk and conducts thorough nutrition assessments.
  • Monitors and evaluates the nutritional status of patients during their hospital stay.
  • Develops tailored nutrition intervention plans that align with the patient's health goals.
  • Collects and analyzes relevant data based on evidence-based practices.

· Nutrition Education:

  • Delivers professional nutrition counseling that considers age and cultural backgrounds.
  • Assesses educational needs and provides relevant, hospital-approved nutrition education tailored to the patient's learning preferences and conditions.

· Administrative and Supervisory Duties:

  • Participates in departmental meetings and stays informed about departmental updates and changes.
  • Adheres to budgetary constraints while managing resources effectively.
  • Collaborates with foodservice personnel to ensure compliance with dietary prescriptions.

· Professional Development:

  • Maintains dietetic registration and fulfills continuing education requirements.
  • Creates and follows a personalized plan for professional advancement.
  • Engages in departmental and interdisciplinary meetings, as well as staff development initiatives.
  • Complies with all hospital policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED:

  • Completion of an accredited dietetics program and supervised practice.
  • Bachelor’s degree in dietetics, nutrition, or a related field.
  • Preferred one year of experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Florida Department of Health dietitian/nutritionist license.
