Role Overview: The Food and Nutrition Services Associate, under the guidance of the FANS Management Team, is responsible for ensuring that all cashiering, clerical, and administrative support tasks are executed efficiently and accurately. This role involves processing dietary orders, managing menus, and addressing patient requests. The Associate also engages in various employee-related duties, including cashiering, serving, and short-order cooking, while consistently delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clerical and Administrative Duties:
    • Prepare and adjust patient menus according to therapeutic diets and nutritional guidelines.
    • Record special food items as per departmental protocols.
    • Maintain essential records such as meal count sheets and patient Kardex.
    • Keep accurate logs of telephone communications and messages.
    • Ensure timely availability of menus on the tray line.
    • Organize diet changes to facilitate efficient meal service.
  • Cashier Responsibilities:
    • Operate the cash register, handling transactions, providing change, and balancing after each meal.
    • Prepare daily cafeteria items, including salads and sandwiches.
    • Manage cash handling in accordance with hospital policies.
    • Complete cash reports accurately following each meal service.
    • Clean and stock necessary equipment before meal service.
    • Report any food shortages to the supervisor promptly.
    • Maintain cleanliness in all work areas, including walls and storage spaces.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year of experience in healthcare food and nutrition services.
  • Clerical experience is preferred.

Special Requirements:

  • Ability to work in environments with potential exposure to human blood and body fluids.
  • Proficiency in speaking, writing, and reading in English.

Physical Requirements:

This position primarily involves light work, with a maximum lifting requirement of 25 lbs. The role necessitates constant walking, standing, and maneuvering of patient tray carts. Compliance with established health requirements is essential. Effective communication skills, both spoken and written, are necessary for this position.
