Position Summary

The following outlines the essential functions and responsibilities associated with this role. This is not an exhaustive list of all duties performed by personnel in this position.

1. Acts as the initial point of contact for patients and visitors, delivering outstanding customer service within the Patient Access and Administrative Services departments, acknowledging the emotional challenges patients may face during their visits.

2. Key responsibilities include enhancing interpersonal communication, gathering necessary data, assessing situations effectively, and collaborating with the team to develop solutions that promote exceptional customer service while safeguarding the hospital's financial health.

3. Responsible for collecting and verifying patient and insurance information, reviewing benefits in the Epic system, providing cost estimates, securing necessary pre-authorizations, and assisting patients with financial inquiries.

4. Guides patients to various clinics where registration assistance is provided, ensuring a smooth navigation experience to their appointments.

5. Maintains a thorough understanding of all registration protocols to ensure accurate reporting and billing, while obtaining required signatures and performing clerical tasks as needed.

6. Informs patients about their insurance coverage, understanding billing requirements, and communicating necessary procedures to them.

7. Addresses coverage concerns by liaising with service areas and collaborating with patients and staff to find resolutions.

8. Ensures all admission paperwork is accurate and complete before processing, reaching out to clinical staff for any missing information, and distributing admission documents as necessary.

9. Oversees scheduling templates for outpatient providers, ensuring optimal scheduling practices are followed.

10. Maintains regular communication with Care Management and Social Work teams to ensure all necessary information is collected for reimbursement and compliance with pre-admission requirements.

11. Supports the training of new admitting staff by demonstrating departmental processes and procedures.

Qualifications

1. A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

2. Preferred certifications and memberships in relevant organizations.

3. A minimum of one year of experience in a clerical, customer service, or receptionist role, ideally within a healthcare environment; two years of experience is preferred.
