Position Summary:

We are looking for a skilled Senior Cost Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join our team, providing estimating, benchmarking, and commercial management services for a significant data center construction program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Foster and maintain essential relationships with clients, stakeholders, and fellow consultants.
  • Develop comprehensive cost plans and project capital estimates throughout the design phase, ensuring timely updates at critical milestones.
  • Compile cost reports and estimate packages, presenting findings to stakeholders regularly.
  • Contribute commercial insights during design optioneering and value engineering sessions.
  • Conduct cost evaluations and valuations on larger projects, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and present the final cost plan in collaboration with clients, general contractors, and project teams.
  • Review contractor and subcontractor pricing, leading negotiations to secure fair contract terms.
  • Monitor margin levels and monthly fee/resource forecasts across all commissions.
  • Oversee the commercial review process for competitive bids on major trades.
  • Ensure accurate data capture through effective benchmarking integration.
  • Engage with general contractors and project managers to gather status updates for cost estimate revisions.
  • Draft comprehensive feedback on general contractor submissions, including executive summaries.
  • Drive engineering priorities based on cost implications.
  • Work independently to address scheduling challenges.
  • Manage knowledge by inputting key information and lessons learned into internal databases.
  • Identify and implement process improvements within internal systems.
  • Utilize provided tools for financial management, tracking ongoing margins and forecasts.
  • Collaborate with design services and general contractors to develop accurate cost estimates.
  • Reconcile changes during the planning phase, assisting general contractors in maintaining data accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and participate in ISO audits.
  • Effectively manage line responsibilities.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities with existing and prospective clients.
  • Lead proposals for new projects or variations on current engagements.
Qualifications:
  • Exceptional presentation, verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Extensive experience in cost management roles on large-scale projects during the preconstruction phase.
  • Strong understanding of cost elements, including material prices, labor, productivity, cash flow, and overall project expenses.
  • Proven experience in preparing cost management estimates and reports.
  • Expertise in advising clients on value management and value engineering.
  • Familiarity with business development principles.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and work collaboratively.
  • Proficient in Microsoft and G-suite applications.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and advanced spreadsheet proficiency.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with project teams.
Education and Experience:
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience managing a Cost Management team, ensuring accountability and performance.
  • Demonstrated experience in large, critical construction projects, such as data centers or high-tech facilities.
  • Understanding of unit costs and factors influencing construction expenses.
  • Experience with Request for Proposal (RFP) responses.
  • Strong communication skills and a client-facing approach.
  • MEP experience is advantageous, particularly in Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing estimating.
