Position Overview: The Senior Manager of Civil Engineering Operations is tasked with overseeing the mechanical engineering functions associated with operational management, facility maintenance, and construction projects, ensuring compliance with relevant statutes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance and operational integrity of CMS Grounds, including athletic facilities.
  • Be available for emergency response related to operational crises, including adverse weather conditions.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on equipment failures to enhance reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Formulate and execute maintenance and operational strategies.
  • Maintain and update preventive maintenance schedules for all facilities.
  • Manage the Facility Control Index and Facilities Sustainment Plan.
  • Lead various projects, including facility upgrades and repairs.
  • Propose renovation and replacement initiatives.
  • Track and report on the status of ongoing projects and maintenance tasks.
  • Engage in the selection process for design teams for new and renovation projects.
  • Review and endorse design specifications for capital projects.
  • Provide data and information support to staff as needed.
  • Evaluate and suggest modifications to existing guidelines and specifications.
  • Supervise and mentor staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Assist the department director with additional responsibilities as required.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of operational policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience (10 years for Technology degree holders).

Alternatively, candidates with fifteen years of leadership experience and demonstrated achievements in a relevant environment may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) designation.
  • Master's degree in Engineering or MBA.
  • Experience in K-12 facilities.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient knowledge of civil engineering practices and landscaping.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems' planning, construction, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with capital planning processes and construction requirements.
  • Knowledge of public school laws related to construction.
  • Able to lead multiple project teams effectively.
  • Capable of interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Proficient in MS Office and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Ability to select, supervise, and evaluate staff performance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to engage in physical activities such as walking, standing, and lifting.
  • Occasionally required to perform tasks involving climbing, kneeling, and typing.
