The Smidt Heart Institute is home to a distinguished team of experts who are setting the bar for cardiovascular care in the United States. The Institute unites 16 centers and programs to diagnose and treat the full spectrum of heart and vascular conditions for all patients, from infants to those with advanced disease. Compassionate care is integrated with an agile research enterprise, giving patients access to pioneering treatments. Our faculty and attending physicians provide deep competency across all specialties, including transplantation, stem cell therapy, congenital heart disease, women's heart health, valve disorders, arrhythmia, and hypertension.

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership, and patient care management across the health care continuum from preventative, acute care through discharge. An APRN's practice incorporates both independent decision-making abilities and collaboration with the board certified/eligible physician to provide expert care to the patients.

Responsibilities
  • Apply the nursing process to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Supervise and manage clinical practice, ensuring adherence to established standards and protocols.
  • Participate in research initiatives, contributing to the advancement of cardiovascular care.
  • Provide consultative services to patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental collaboration and communication.
  • Develop and implement educational programs for patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Lead and manage patient care teams, ensuring effective coordination and delivery of care.
Requirements
  • Master of Nursing Degree
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Current State of California Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License.
  • National Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
  • Current DEA license (schedule 2-5) and APRN Furnishing Number.
  • Current ACLS certification.
