Position Overview:

  • Conduct accounting, analysis, and reporting for capital projects and fixed assets associated with NRG Inc and its subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute the accounting, processing, and analysis of fixed assets.
  • Perform fixed asset accounting tasks necessary for an accurate and timely month-end close of NRG Energy Inc. Responsibilities include calculating monthly depreciation, capitalizing CIP projects, managing retirements, and preparing necessary journal entries for posting in the accounting system.
  • Reconcile fixed asset accounts with the general ledger on a monthly basis.
  • Account for Asset Retirement Obligations in accordance with ASC 410.
  • Evaluate projects for appropriate capital versus expense classification.
  • Assist the Corporate Tax department with annual property tax submissions.
  • Collaborate with generation operations and the accounting team to facilitate CIP reviews and month-end closing activities.
  • Support external and internal audit requests.
  • Report monthly variances in capital expenditures to the FP&A and Operations teams.
  • Prepare depreciation forecasts for NRG and its subsidiaries.
  • Generate monthly/quarterly fixed asset schedules for the company in compliance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Provide guidance on technical accounting matters.
  • Assist with special projects as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

  • Open office layout with a hybrid schedule of 3-4 days in the office and 1-2 days working remotely.
  • Some overtime may be necessary during close cycles and for special projects.
  • Minimal travel is expected.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting with three to five years of experience in general accounting and finance.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify opportunities for process enhancements.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently within a team-oriented culture.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment with the capability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work in either a remote or office setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with SAP, HFM, and Microsoft Office Excel, along with other Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional lifting may be required to perform job duties and responsibilities.
