Mooring Lead Project Engineer

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Mooring Lead Project Engineer is tasked with overseeing the deployment of various anchor piles and mooring systems. This role involves defining essential engineering analyses, creating relevant procedures, and supporting the mobilization and offshore execution of mooring initiatives. The individual will collaborate with the Project Team, various support disciplines, clients, vendors, vessel operators, offshore personnel, analysis teams, and relevant professional organizations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities include:
  • Developing all necessary documentation and preliminary studies related to tenders and projects.
  • Conducting engineering activities associated with the preparation and offshore installation of anchor piles and mooring systems, including the tow and hook-up of the host facility.
  • Managing all phases of offshore installation.
  • Providing insights for installation analysis concerning mooring systems.
  • Contributing to analyses for the tow and station-keeping of the host facility.
  • Identifying vessels and equipment essential for the safe execution of the project.
  • Planning, preparing, and validating specific procedures (e.g., site validation tests, transportation, and installation) along with associated calculation notes (e.g., rigging design) to establish priorities.
  • Owning the Hazard Identification Risk Assessment (HIRA) process throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Offering technical expertise during the procurement phase and confirming project progress in interim meetings with the Project Engineering Manager.
  • Participating in both mobilization and installation phases on the vessel.
  • Encouraging and facilitating project team awareness of company quality assurance and health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Ensuring that all activities adhere to project standards regarding quality, cost, and time.
  • Proposing innovative solutions to reduce costs and risks.
  • Supporting the development of relevant tools and organizing technology sessions for the team to showcase these tools.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Ocean & Naval Architecture Engineering.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10-12 years of relevant work experience in mooring system installation/design for FPSOs, semi-submersibles, and other offshore structures.
  • Ability to generate relevant procedures, sketches, and define analysis support required to execute the scope of work.
  • Strong knowledge of various anchor pile installation methodologies with relevant offshore operations experience.
  • Solid understanding of mooring installation methodologies with relevant offshore operations experience.
  • Proficient in industry software such as Orcaflex, MOSES, MathCad, and DNV SESAM Software Suite for Offshore and Maritime Engineering.
  • Experience executing mooring projects from an anchor handling vessel/tug.
  • Good knowledge of coordinating project equipment in a material yard.
  • Understanding of relevant industry codes and standards.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and coordinate with others effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in both written and spoken English; proficiency in a second international language is advantageous.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Able to work in a diverse and multicultural environment.
  • Capability to guide and mentor graduates and junior engineers.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • The majority of work will be conducted from Subsea 7's Houston office.
  • Some local and international travel may be required (up to 25%).
  • Offshore/off-site work may be necessary during project execution phases (up to 25%).
