About the Role

Duke Health is seeking a highly skilled Certified Medical Assistant to join our Primary Care team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our medical staff in delivering high-quality services.

Responsibilities
  • Take medical histories and record vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients and preparing them for examinations and procedures.
  • Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests in the clinic/office.
  • Take electrocardiograms, remove sutures/staples, change sterile and non-sterile dressings, and promote patient/family understanding of educational content and their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Document patient records and perform other clinical support responsibilities as delegated and supervised by the physician.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Greet patients, answer telephones, schedule appointments, check out patients, and refer patients as needed.
  • Arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services, update and file patient medical records, fill out insurance forms, handle billing and bookkeeping, and order clinical and clerical supplies and forms.
  • Perform other administrative duties as directed and may be requested to participate in clinic activities such as Joint Commission and falls or participate in clinic committees.
Requirements
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation required.
  • Level I: No experience required.
  • Level II: At least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
  • Level III: At least 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
