Job Summary

The Director of IS Science and Engineering will lead the development and implementation of IT strategies to support the scientific and engineering departments at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. This individual will oversee the IS staff in establishing strong working relationships with key stakeholders and collaborating to implement various IT solutions to meet the needs of the research organization. The position will also support the Marine Facilities and Ship Operations department IT needs, as well as some administrative systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement IT strategies to support science and engineering computing
  • Lead the IS staff in establishing strong working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the user community to identify IT needs and develop solutions
  • Work closely with WHOI Science and Engineering leaders and other stakeholders to set strategies and priorities
  • Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, and security materials
  • Communicate institutional requirements to vendors and outside organizations
  • Act as an active leader on the IS leadership and management team

Requirements

Education and Experience

Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and/or Computer Science

15+ years of progressively responsible management experience, including experience with system installation, configuration, administration, and integration, and project management

Direct personnel and functional management experience required

Experience implementing and supporting both cloud and on-premises systems

Desired Skills

Experience with project management and application development methodologies

Demonstrated effective vendor management and experience with information technology providers
