Sterile Processing Specialist II

Kaiser Permanente is in search of a Sterile Processing Technician Level II to join our dedicated team.
Position OverviewThe Sterile Processing Technician Level II plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of medical operations by managing the decontamination, cleaning, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical and surgical instruments and supplies. This position adheres to the highest standards set forth by CDC, OSHA, EPA, AAMI, Title 22, APIC, and JC guidelines.
Key Responsibilities- Process and fulfill orders from various departments.
- Conduct equipment rounds, returning soiled instruments to the Sterile Processing Department (SPD), ensuring proper cleaning and functionality before storage.
- Manage inventory and restock supplies, including specialty carts as per departmental guidelines.
- Disassemble, clean, and decontaminate surgical instruments following manufacturer recommendations.
- Assemble, inspect, and prepare all operating room sets, including specialty sets, in accordance with established protocols.
- Operate sterilization equipment and maintain records in compliance with departmental standards.
- Examine and ensure the integrity of sterile packages.
- Prepare operating room case carts based on preference cards for surgical procedures.
- Enhance customer service for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of training.
Experience:
- A minimum of two years of recent experience as a Sterile Processing Technician in an acute care hospital or as a Surgical Technician with equivalent experience in a Sterile Processing Department.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Program with at least 400 clinical hours or a Surgical Technician program.
Licensure and Certification:
- Certification from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Registered Central Service Technician Certificate, or Surgical Technologist Certificate.
Additional Skills:
- Proficient understanding of instrument processing techniques, including decontamination, assembly, and sterilization.
- Knowledge of Sterile Processing Department policies and procedures, including infection control practices.
- Ability to distinguish colors and respond to audible alarms.
- Strong multitasking and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
Note: This position requires the employee to work every other weekend.
