About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department team at Highmark Health. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing transformational leadership and delivering high-quality patient care.

  • Assign or delegate tasks based on the needs of the patient and skill level of the RN, LPN or support staff.
  • Consider maintenance of a safe environment, patient condition, complexity of the intervention and predictability of the outcome.
  • Provide peers with both verbal and written feedback regarding clinical practice and role performance.
  • Share knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues and cultivate a work environment that promotes positive employee attitudes, effective communications, trust, and collaboration.

  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to evaluate clinical care or health services.
  • Promote patient safety initiatives (ex: National Patient Safety Goals).
  • Participate in department specific quality initiatives (ex: EBP population specific). Assure appropriate order sets are used.
  • Supervise, delegate, and evaluate assigned LPN scope of practice as appropriate.
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, evaluate, and implement a patient plan of care according to the individual needs of the patient as prescribed by physician, nurse, and hospital policy, including patient and family.
  • Derive culturally and age-appropriate expected outcomes involving the patient, family, and other healthcare providers.
  • Analyze the health status of the individuals and families comparing the data with the norm, when possible, to determine patient care needs.
  • Assess patient reports/records change of condition and notify physician and/or supervisor and intervene appropriately and document accordingly.
  • Accept assignments in areas other than primary unit, and perform duties within individualized competency.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to continuous lifelong learning and professional development for self and others.
  • Promote advancement of the profession through participation in professional organizations.
  • Seek both formal and independent learning activities using current research findings and other evidence to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in systematic peer review and obtain informal feedback regarding one's own practice from patients, peers, professional colleagues, and others. Identify areas of strength, as well as, areas in which professional development would be beneficial.
  • Meet time and attendance guidelines per hospital policy.
  • Place the patient at the center of everything they do by continuously evaluating and assessing patient and family satisfaction and performing as an advocate for patients and customers.
  • Participate in department specific patient satisfaction initiatives.
  • Promote compassionate communication that is patient and family-centered.
  • Assess for and attempt to resolve patient/family concerns.
  • Utilize effective time management skills to complete assigned duties and responsibilities within established work shift.

Qualifications:

  • Completed RN training program and have PA RN licensure.
  • Two years of RN experience within the previous five-year period.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Certification in area of specialty (preferred).
