Job Title: Network Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Technician to join our team at the State of North Carolina. As a Network Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining the health, management, and connectivity of our VIPER radio communications network.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Configure hardware and software to ensure optimal network performance
  • Program switches, routers, radios, multiplexers, demultiplexers, and GPS receivers
  • Install, repair, and maintain network communication systems, including power surge protection, electrical wiring, backup generators, and UPS equipment
  • Evaluate safety concerns, FAA tower lighting systems, antenna performance, and signal loss
  • Demonstrate knowledge of microwave data circuits, microwave RF links, microwave path loss, UHF and VHF propagation characteristics, transmission lines, complex antenna systems, standalone VHF and UHF repeaters, multiplexers, demultiplexers, switches, and routers
  • Assess communication network system and software needs, evaluate equipment for compatibility, assist with network design, and resolve network and communications operation problems
  • Consult with and resolve communication issues with other agencies on the VIPER system
  • Analyze software and hardware options to ensure functionality, reliability, compatibility, and manufacturer credibility for the VIPER network
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent and one year of IT experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with configuring hardware, software, switches, routers, radios, multiplexers, demultiplexers, and GPS receivers
  • Knowledge of microwave data circuits, microwave RF links, microwave path loss, UHF and VHF propagation characteristics, transmission lines, complex antenna systems, standalone VHF and UHF repeaters, multiplexers, demultiplexers, switches, and routers
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule and be available to work weekends and nights
