Hawthorne, California, United States Schools (Government) Full time

Position Overview

The role of a classroom educator encompasses two distinct salary classifications, namely Range 1 and Range 2. The primary responsibility of the classroom educator is to meticulously plan, prepare, and deliver educational programs aimed at achieving defined student outcomes. This role necessitates engaging in reflective practices and inquiry to enhance knowledge and skills, thereby effectively engaging students and fostering their academic growth.

As educators progress in their careers, their contributions to the broader school community extend beyond classroom instruction. All classroom educators may be tasked with additional responsibilities that align with their salary classification, qualifications, training, and experience.

Range 2 Classroom Educator
Educators at Range 2 are pivotal in driving improvements in student performance and educational outcomes as outlined in the school’s strategic objectives and state-wide educational priorities. They play a crucial role in developing and implementing school policies and initiatives.

A significant aspect of this position involves enhancing the knowledge base of staff regarding student learning and high-quality instructional practices, thereby assisting the school in defining exemplary teaching standards.

Expectations for Range 2 educators include:

  • Possessing comprehensive content knowledge and pedagogical skills to cater to the diverse needs of all students.
  • Exemplifying outstanding classroom practices and mentoring fellow educators to engage in reflective practices and enhance their professional capacities.
  • Providing expert guidance on content, processes, and strategies that shape individual and institutional professional development.
  • Supervising and training one or more student teachers.
  • Assisting colleagues in utilizing student data to inform instructional strategies aimed at achieving targeted improvements in student learning outcomes.

Range 1 Classroom Educator
The primary focus for Range 1 educators is to further develop their skills and competencies to become effective classroom practitioners, supported by structured guidance from more experienced educators. They are responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering educational programs that meet specific student outcomes. Range 1 educators teach various student groups and are accountable for the effective execution of their programs.

These educators operate under general supervision within established guidelines and may oversee the training of one or more student teachers. They actively participate in the formulation of school policies and programs, contributing to the implementation of institutional priorities.

Responsibilities of Range 1 educators include:

  • Direct instruction of student groups and individual learners.
  • Contributing to the development, execution, and assessment of curriculum areas or other educational programs within the institution.
  • Engaging in additional teaching-related and organizational duties as assigned by the School Principal.
  • Participating in various school activities, including meetings with parents, staff gatherings, and extracurricular events.
  • Undertaking non-teaching supervisory responsibilities.
