Hawthorne, California, United States Schools (Government) Full time

Position Overview

The role of a classroom educator encompasses two distinct salary tiers, specifically range 1 and range 2. The primary responsibility of the classroom educator is to meticulously plan, prepare, and deliver educational programs aimed at achieving defined student outcomes. This position requires engaging in reflective practices and inquiry to enhance knowledge and skills for effectively engaging students and fostering their academic growth.

As educators gain experience, their contributions to the broader school initiatives beyond classroom instruction become increasingly significant. All classroom educators may be tasked with additional responsibilities alongside their scheduled teaching duties, provided these duties align with their salary tier, qualifications, training, and experience.

Range 2 Classroom Educator
Educators at range 2 play a pivotal role in supporting the school’s efforts to enhance student performance and educational outcomes as outlined in the school’s strategic plan and state-wide objectives. They contribute to the formulation and execution of school policies and priorities.

A key aspect of this role involves expanding the knowledge base of staff regarding student learning and high-quality instructional practices to help define exemplary teaching practices within the school.

Expectations for range 2 educators include:
- Possessing the necessary content knowledge and pedagogical skills to cater to the diverse needs of all students
- Demonstrating exemplary classroom practices and mentoring fellow educators in critical reflection of their teaching
- Providing expert guidance on content, processes, and strategies that shape individual and collective professional development
- Supervising and training one or more student teachers
- Assisting colleagues in utilizing student data to inform instructional strategies that meet targets for improving student learning outcomes.

Range 1 Classroom Educator
The primary focus for range 1 educators is to further develop their skills and competencies to become effective classroom practitioners, with structured support and guidance from more experienced educators. They are responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering educational programs to achieve specific student outcomes. Range 1 educators teach various student groups and are accountable for the effective execution of their programs.

Educators at this level operate under general supervision, adhering to established guidelines and documented priorities, and may be responsible for supervising and training one or more student teachers. They participate in the development of school policies and programs and assist in implementing school priorities.
The focus for range 1 educators includes classroom management, subject content, and teaching methodologies. New educators in their initial years receive structured support, mentoring, and guidance from more experienced staff.

Under supervision, new educators will plan and instruct student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to engage in induction programs and other professional development activities that integrate curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy across the school.

Range 1 educators are responsible for their own classes and may also contribute to policy development, project teams, and the organization of extracurricular activities.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of a classroom educator may include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct instruction of groups and individual students;

  • Participating in activities such as parent-teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions;
  • Undertaking non-teaching supervisory duties as required.
