About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. The successful candidate will have a strong background in Geochemistry and Environmental Science, with a focus on mineral synthesis, crystal growth, aggregation, and dissolution mechanisms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent research and collaborate with a diverse team of scientists and technical staff to advance our understanding of environmental legacy waste remediation.
  • Design and implement novel approaches to study the Al mineral crystal growth, aggregation, and dissolution mechanisms using advanced resources at PNNL and associated DOE user facilities.
  • Develop and maintain a strong publication record in the peer-reviewed scientific literature, with a focus on high-impact journals.
  • Present research at technical conferences and project/program review meetings, and contribute to the development of research proposals.
  • Collaborate with experimentalist and computational modeling colleagues to advance our understanding of environmental legacy waste remediation.
Requirements
  • PhD in Geochemistry, Environmental Science, Materials, Chemical Engineering, and/or Chemistry from an accredited college or university within the past five years.
  • Graduated from a minority serving institution (MSI) for either undergraduate or graduate degree.
  • Strong background in various in situ and ex situ techniques such as Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), small angle X-Ray scattering (SXAS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM).
  • Preferred skills: synchrotron-based techniques and radiochemistry.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work closely with a diverse group of scientists and technical staff.
Working Conditions

The candidate must be able to achieve DOE Radiological Worker II qualification and work in a hazardous environment.
