Position Overview
As a Senior Chemist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, you will engage in advanced research involving organic and inorganic materials. Your role will include analyzing and testing various substances to uncover their properties and characteristics, contributing to the enhancement of existing products or the creation of new ones.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research on chemical substances, focusing on their physical and chemical properties.
- Specialize in various fields of chemistry, including:
- Analytical Chemistry: Perform detailed qualitative and quantitative analyses to ascertain the composition and purity of materials.
- Biochemistry: Investigate the chemical processes and structures within living organisms.
- Geochemistry: Explore the Earth's composition and processes.
- Inorganic Chemistry: Examine the properties of inorganic compounds and materials.
- Nuclear Chemistry: Study atomic reactions and the effects of radiation.
- Radiochemistry: Develop techniques to analyze radionuclides and their applications.
- Organic Chemistry: Research carbon-containing compounds and their reactions.
- Physical Chemistry: Analyze matter behavior at molecular and atomic levels.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess significant laboratory experience in chemistry research. A strong publication record and the ability to lead and mentor interdisciplinary teams are essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- A Bachelor's degree with 5+ years, a Master's degree with 3+ years, or a Ph.D. with 1+ year of relevant experience.
- Expertise in inorganic, analytical, or radiochemistry.
- Proficiency in planning and executing experimental work, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
- Experience in securing research funding.
- A portfolio that includes experience in wet-chemistry and radioisotope separations.
- Familiarity with handling radioactive materials.
- Active security clearance is preferred.
Additional Information
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and will undergo a federal background investigation. Drug testing will be required as part of the hiring process.
