- Preferred one year of relevant experience.
The Clinical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing blood draws and skin punctures to collect specimens for diagnostic testing. This role entails ensuring the efficient and precise processing of test requests, maintaining accurate patient records, and coordinating with healthcare professionals regarding urgent testing needs. The technician will also manage the distribution and documentation of test results and physician orders, and will communicate with patients and medical staff as necessary. Adherence to laboratory protocols for specimen handling is crucial. Additionally, the technician will conduct capillary blood tests and EKGs for outpatients, while managing incoming calls to the laboratory and directing inquiries appropriately. Maintaining an organized and clean work environment is essential for this position.
In this role, the technician is expected to exhibit professionalism and composure in high-pressure situations. The following competencies are essential:
- Ability to perform phlebotomy and capillary puncture procedures across various age groups, including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
- Effective communication skills to relay patient preparation and procedural information to guardians of young patients, and to engage with patients of all ages at their level of understanding.
- Capability to gather and interpret information from guardians of young patients and directly from patients of all ages to ensure optimal care.
