POSITION: FINANCIAL OPERATIONS MANAGER

COMANCO presents a remarkable opportunity for a Financial Operations Manager. Our construction management team seeks a dynamic individual: someone eager to contribute to an established and successful nationwide construction management firm, striving to exceed expectations in their role to assist COMANCO in achieving its business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safeguard assets by developing, supervising, and enforcing internal controls.
  • Evaluate and verify financial status by performing audits; supplying information to external auditors.
  • Meet budget targets by planning expenditures; analyzing discrepancies; initiating corrective measures.
  • Support all accounting roles as needed.
  • Adhere to federal, state, and local legal standards by reviewing existing and new regulations; anticipating future changes; ensuring compliance; submitting financial reports; advising management on necessary actions.
  • Enhance financial team performance by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training staff; mentoring, counseling, and managing employee performance; planning, monitoring, and evaluating job outcomes.
  • Advance professional and technical expertise by attending educational seminars; reviewing industry publications; building personal networks; engaging in professional organizations.

General Ledger Management:

  • Oversee the Chart of Accounts for all entities.
  • Prepare and assess monthly financial reports.
  • Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly and promptly address any discrepancies.
  • Handle ad hoc requests that arise in the course of business.

Accounts Payable Oversight:

  • Administer all Accounts Payable functions and protocols.
  • Conduct regular audits of the accounts payable system.
  • Act as a liaison for corporate card inquiries, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and procedures.

Sales & Use Tax Management:

  • Guarantee tax collection on all taxable transactions.
  • Supervise and maintain Sales and Use tax rates in the accounting system.
  • Oversee the preparation of all sales & use, gross receipts, and excise tax filings.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payment of sales/use tax at the correct rates.
  • Analyze tax data and educate staff on compliant purchasing structures.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from tax authorities.

Accounts Receivable Coordination:

  • Collaborate with project management to resolve billing and draw request discrepancies.

Job Cost Analysis:

  • Review job cost reports for precision.
  • Record earned revenue and monitor over/under billings monthly.
  • Conduct final reviews of the overhead allocation process.
  • Maintain job phase documentation as necessary.
  • Support the Staff Accountant with new project and change request setups.

Payroll Administration:

  • Facilitate weekly payroll transfers from Operating to Payroll.
  • Oversee payroll processes ensuring timely and accurate payment of payroll liabilities.
  • Verify accuracy of accruals for benefit-related expenses and adjust as required.
  • Collaborate with the Payroll Administrator to resolve payroll issues.
  • Provide backup support for the Payroll Administrator.

Tax Compliance:

  • Assist the Controller in maintaining the schedule for Estimated Taxes for Federal and State obligations.
  • Respond in a timely manner to inquiries from tax authorities.

Cash Management:

  • Upload positive pay files and address inquiries with the banking institution.

Audit Support:

  • Assist in the Year-End audit process.
  • Manage and conduct the 401(k) audit.
  • Support the preparation of federal and state tax reports.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or higher in accounting or finance.
  • Experience: Minimum five years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction sector.
  • Skills: Demonstrated ability to maintain accounting procedures, accurately record financial transactions, and prepare financial and management reports in a computerized environment. Effective communication skills with employees, vendors, and clients are essential.
