The Desert Research Institute is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Native Climate Agricultural Fellow to join our team. As a key member of our Native Climate Working Group, you will play a crucial role in coordinating monthly meetings, recruiting speakers, and developing opportunities for collaboration with Tribal farmers, ranchers, teachers, and youth.
Key Responsibilities:- Meeting Coordination: Organize and coordinate the Native Climate Working Group monthly meetings, ensuring timely and effective communication with speakers and attendees.
- Liaison and Collaboration: Serve as the liaison to agricultural organizations throughout Indian Country, fostering relationships and developing opportunities for Native Climate team members to engage with Tribal communities.
- Grant Development: Support the development of new grants and research projects in Indian Country, working closely with DRI researchers to identify and pursue funding opportunities.
- Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in agriculture science or a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience working in Indian Country, with a strong understanding of Native American communities and cultures.
- Organizational Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience working with Native American organizations, with a proven track record of building relationships and fostering collaboration.
- Farming or Ranching Experience: Experience in farming or ranching, with a strong understanding of agricultural practices and challenges.
- Residential Experience: Experience living on a Native American Reservation, with a deep understanding of the cultural and social nuances of these communities.
- Cultural Competence: Knowledge of Native American traditional practices and a strong commitment to cultural sensitivity and awareness.
- Remote Work: This position is remote, with a flexible schedule that aligns with program workplans for Native Climate and other grant-funded projects.
- Travel Requirements: Travel to conferences, meetings, and other programmatic events may be required, with a focus on building relationships and fostering collaboration with Tribal communities.
- Hourly Rate: $37.00 per hour.
