Job Overview:

The role involves acquiring essential goods and services at the most favorable total cost while emphasizing overall value. Collaborate with various departments to assist in supplier selection, define product specifications, and establish ordering practices that align with the company's best interests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Procures designated commodities from approved suppliers in a timely manner to avert material shortages, while identifying potential cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and operational practices in all procurement activities.
  • Addresses issues related to delivery timelines, product quality, specifications, quantities, or costs of procured goods or services.
  • Evaluates requisitions and collaborates with departments to clarify requirements, specifications, quantities, and delivery needs, recommending alternative suppliers when cost savings or improved delivery are achievable.
  • Examines discrepancies in invoices that do not align with purchase orders and resolves these issues effectively.
  • Establishes standard costs for assigned commodities in conjunction with the Sourcing team.
  • Issues purchase orders, negotiates low-risk contracts, and sets up blanket orders, which may include consignment stock.
  • Works with the Sourcing team to assess suppliers' financial stability, technical capabilities, facilities, and production methods to ensure reliable supply sources.
  • Negotiates pricing and follows competitive bidding protocols when necessary to secure the lowest total cost for specific materials, collaborating with other departments as needed.
  • May engage with Sourcing, Demand Planning, and the Commercial team in developing strategies and negotiations.
  • Manages supplier scheduling, maintains purchase order acknowledgments, oversees system lead time maintenance, and coordinates with Demand Planning, Sourcing, Quality, Engineering, and Suppliers.

Competency Expectations:

  • Ability to engage in fundamental contract negotiations and implement standard form contracts; develop basic project plans, prioritize tasks, and mobilize resources across functions and locations.
  • Quickly and effectively address problems using factual data, demonstrate situational adaptability, know the appropriate resources for efficient resolution, and drive for results.
  • Gain knowledge of the organization and the orthopedics sector, focusing on personal development to excel in purchasing within the assigned area and expand into new areas in the future.
  • Familiarity with purchasing and planning systems.
  • Understanding of accounting principles and budgeting practices.
  • Proficiency in personal computing and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and rapid learning abilities are essential.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related fields, along with 2 to 5 years of experience in purchasing and negotiations, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in purchasing raw materials and packaging is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the raw material market is advantageous.
  • Experience with J.D. Edwards or similar ERP software is beneficial; A.P.P. certification from ISM is preferred, while C.P.M. certification is a plus.
