Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Train and assist school district instructional staff on software, hardware, and internet use, ensuring relatedness to the New York State Learning Standards, school district curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Schedule instructional sites and coordinate requests from schools regarding planning for training of teachers, proctors, and administrators.
  • Write instructional course descriptions and publish and distribute catalogs of teacher training courses.
  • Solicit training program evaluation from school districts to improve instructional staff training services.
  • Evaluate software and multimedia to ensure instructional congruence with district curriculum and the learning standards.
  • Test and install instructional software applications/updates and analyze and resolve computer hardware and software problems either onsite or by phone.
  • Perform basic computer hardware and software installation, maintenance, and network administration, such as installing standalone or Local Area Network computer hardware and software, configuring software, adding and removing end-users, and resolving printer problems.
  • Meet with school district technology personnel and administrators to discuss requests for program changes, advise on hardware and instructional software purchases, and coordinate technology projects.
  • Order and track instructional software applications purchased for school districts and maintain detailed written records on training and services provided.
  • Participate in regional user group meetings for the support and development of instructional services supported by BOCES.
  • Distribute training documents, manuals, revisions, and memos, newsletters, and other information pertaining to instructional software use in a school district.
  • Document instructional software changes requested by component school districts and forward it to the appropriate software company.
  • Research new and updated instructional software before distributing it to a school district.
  • Advise and make recommendations to school personnel regarding curriculum, hardware, and software purchases.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge on emerging theories and best practices in learning and teaching technology integration.
  • Attend, participate, or host professional conferences and meetings and serve as liaison with the New York State Education Department, school districts officials, computer and instructional coordinators, and other program-related agencies.
  • Prepare and submit written and statistical reports related to program activities for the BOCES and New York State Education Department.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor's degree in education, mathematics, management information systems, computer science, information resources management, information technology, or a closely related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in providing training on educational software applications relating to student curricula.
Notes

Successful completion of a three (3) credit hour course beyond the requirements of (A) and (B) in education, mathematics, management information systems, computer science, information resources management, information technology, or a closely related field may be substituted for three (3) months of appropriate experience.

Successful completion of a course of study offered by a technical training institute, college, or a corporate training program in management information systems, computer science, information resources management, information technology, or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of appropriate experience, if the following conditions are met:

The course of training involves learning the fundamental aspects of computer programming, systems analysis, telecommunications systems, LAN/WAN system configuration, or a similar course with technical emphasis on the operation of a connected computer system.

The candidate provides an official description of the coursework and evidence that it was successfully completed.

Coursework in the use of specific programs such as WORD, EXCEL, or ACCESS and data entry is not acceptable.
